Staying healthy during and after a travel

April Showers

June  brings travel  for me. I love to travel but hate to feel “unhealthy” at the end of it.

I keep up with these 5 things during the travel to ensure I have fun and don’t come back home with a muffin top, feeling constipated, bloated, with unclear skin or with the feeling I should have not eaten that.

1. I take a Ziploc full of mixed seeds – (usually pumpkin sunflower seeds) – to sprinkle on salads, eat it with a banana or just snack on. A handful of seeds add healthy fats, boost nutrition, and protein content of any meal.
2. When I order the salad I ask for the dressing on the side. I may dip the greens in the dressing or choose to use the entire dressing served, but I have the CHOICE.
3. I try and eat at restaurants that serve food cooked from scratch  (usually the stand alone restaurants seem to cook fresher than the chains and the big names)
4. Every other meal I will end with a sweet something and for the other meals, carry my own dark chocolate, dried figs and dates– which apart from being nutrient rich also satisfy my sweet tooth.
5. And last but not the least

The 3Ws

Water: Drink lots

Walk: remain mindful I am on a vacation and don’t need to get to  places in a hurry

Watch: and read food labels with detective glasses.

Do you have some travel strategies that work wonders for healthy travel and return home? I would love to hear!
